What’s winters got to do with aged looks? Quite a
lot! You may be wondering it’s a season after all, one that you probably love
so much for all the colorful woolens and gourmet dishes. However, as the nip in
the air gets sharper and the chill sets in, your otherwise luscious skin is
likely to lose its moisture and become dry and dull. Your efforts to save your
skin this foggy season needs an extra push. After all, you surely won’t want
that your skin appears as leathery as the jacket or boots you wear to combat
the weather!
Dry skin is the most common result of seasonal
weathering. Cold winter air lacks humidity and dries up natural oils in your
skin, causing it to lose its moisture. Bitter winter winds also cause chapping
and windburn. This leads to rough, cracked skin that can feel tight and
uncomfortable. These skin problems might affect your confidence as well so you
should not take these problems for granted. Every one irrespective of their age
feels the brunt of winter-associated dryness but post 30’s one needs to be more
careful as the natural oil production of skin slows down. So a daily cleansing
and moisturizing routine is a must. Special attention should be given to
products used for skin care. Change the summer products and use those specially
made to combat the winters. Choose the right products in consultation with your dermatologist.Dermalogica, Clinique
and Dr.Obagi are good brands with promising products.Few pharmaceutical
brands like Sebamed and Dr.Reddy's also have a good range of winter
skin care products.
Dealing with skin problems can be very challenging
job if you don’t know what to do and what not. If you have oily skin then you
will probably face less dryness and will have good skin condition during winter
and the problem of pimples will decrease in this season. However, people with
normal-dry skin type will face more winter dryness and may have cracks in skin
if not well moisturized. So, these people need to be proactive if they wish to
have healthy skin during this season.
Few preventive measures you should take to minimize
the negative effect of cold weather on your skin are:
Ø First of all use mild, non-detergent base face wash
with ph 5.5.
Ø Do not over wash your skin with hot water
Ø After shower or bath - apply immediately moisturizer
Ø Exfoliate your skin once a week
Ø Use night moisturizers apart from good day
moisturizers. The night moisturizers should be more intense to work on skin
throughout night.
Ø Before going out in sun apply sunscreen lotion on
your body and reapply it after every 2-3 hours.
Ø Due to dry cold air, problem of chapped lips arises in
this season so use good quality lip balm to give them a rosy and glossy look.
Cracked heels is a common problem that people come
across in this season and specially women who have to work in water for the
whole day. To get rid of this problem soaks your feet in warm water at night
for 15 minutes. Scrub with a pumice stone. Apply apricot cream and tie gauze
around the heels and feet like a bandage. Keep this on the whole night. Do this
every night for a week.
For people
looking for instant results, who want glowing skin or luscious lips, there are
new age beauty treatments as well. These treatments include Botox, Juvederm
etc. These treatments are on the go and one can carry on with their work just
after the procedure gets done. These are non-surgical treatments so there are
no health hazards related to these procedures.
Diet is also very important part of skin care and
one should eat lots of water-based fruits like oranges and other seasonal
fruits and vegetables. These vegetables and fruits will nourish your skin and
will make it healthy and glowing. Vitamin E and Vitamin A are essential for
healthy skin. A part from skin one should also use conditioner after washing
hair for healthy hair. Heat pure coconut oil and apply on scalp and hair ends.
Wrap a hot towel and let it stay for sometime. Next morning, wash your hair
with a mild herbal shampoo.
